Will my tattoo completely disappear?
The Ultralase Nd-YAG Q-Switched Laser usually achieves greater than 95% fading/removal of tattoos. However it is impossible to determine the final outcome of treatment as there are so many variables including different tattoo inks, depth of ink insertion, and the volume used.
How many sessions will be required?
At the initial consultation the number of treatments required will be determined based on many factors including skin type, tattoo colours, inks used and depth of inks. Usually a minimum of 8 sessions is required.
I need my tattoo removed quickly so can it be treated in less sessions?
No. Tattoo removal is a long process. The treatment schedule is designed to maximise tattoo removal or fading and minimise scarring. Less treatments will produce unsatisfactory results.
Can the area be re-tattooed after removal?
Yes. Re-tattooing can occur whether the existing tattoo has been completely or partially removed or faded.
How long after a tattoo has been applied can it be removed?
Usually at least 6 weeks to allow the initial tattoo wound to heal completely.
Do I need to do anything to prepare for laser tattoo removal?
Yes. You need to limit sun exposure to the skin as well as fake tan and spray tans. The best results are achieved with very pale skin to contrast with the tattoo. A Pre-Treatment information sheet will be given at the initial consultation.
How long is it between treatments?
At least 6 weeks to allow total removal via the immune system of the previous inks.
What happens during a Laser Tattoo Removal Session?
Both client and staff will wear the protective eyewear provided. If clothing needs to removed to reveal tattoo then a privacy screen will be provided along with appropriate linen to enable the tattoo to be visible and nothing else. Treatment time can be as quick as 10 minutes. During the laser treatment the tattoo will turn white and “frost” but this will subside within a few minutes. Slight swelling may occur. Clients will receive an After Treatment protocol to follow which includes avoiding sun exposure.
Is laser tattoo removal painful?
Removal is definitely less painful than getting the tattoo. It can best be described as a rubber band being constantly flicked at your skin – annoying but tolerable.
Is pain relief available?
Topical anaesthetics can be used to temporarily numb the area. Ice packs can also be applied but may make treatment less effective.
Is tattoo removal expensive?
It is more expensive than getting the tattoo. However a visit to the hair salon for a cut and colour costs $200+ every 6-8 weeks for life. Tattoo removal is not ongoing – once the tattoo is faded or removed there are no more payments (unlike the hairdresser!)
